THE NEW EP
DIGNITY
I started writing songs to write better films and plays. I recall hearing John Prine’s “John Garfield Blues” and was shocked at the cinematic abstraction- and knew that if I could master the compression of songwriting, it would add a sense of lyricism and melody to my larger endeavors. What I found along the way is what Famed Finger Picker, Pete Steinberg, said to me when he taught me how to pick my first rag on the guitar, “well I got bad news for ya, Matt... you’re a natural at this and definitely not a doctor.”
Music has been a constant in my life ever since I first heard “Visions of Johanna” by Bob Dylan at 15. So, about a year and half ago, I decided to assemble a few of my favorite tunes and release my debut record. My brother Dan fittingly said, “it’s time.” Working with producer Lauren Adams at I Made That Studios, I was able to collaborate with some of the music industry’s best players and have all of that mixed and mastered by Jim Watson and Thomas Hornig. Honored and humbled, I am proud to share the fruit of those sessions known by the principle it taught me ... DIGNITY.
